I'M NEW
Hey...to begin...let me just say...thank you for being here! The fact that you are reading this page tells us that you are serious about your Church experience and where you will get involved. What follows is a general description of an average Sunday at Fellowship.
Our Worship…
We love Jesus Christ for what He has done for us...when He died on the cross He took the punishment we deserve for our sin. As a result...we want to praise and honour Him in all that we do…we want to encourage one another and share this life changing message of Jesus in a way that connects with everyday life. We are a “church family”…not an organization or a business institution.
What we do…
On a typical Sunday morning we will spend time singing, praying, reading from the Bible and listening to a message from our pastor or some other speaker. Sometimes we hear testimonies of how God is working in peoples lives. Our services are very simple with almost no rituals. We sing songs and hymns to instruments, mostly piano and digital keyboard and sometimes guitars (acoustic & electric) and drums. Songs are usually displayed on the big screen; others are found in the hymn book.
Scripture Reading…
The Bible is at the center of everything we do. It is God’s Word to mankind. So our desire as a church is to be a “Bible reading…Bible believing…and Bible living church.” We want to know what the Word of God says. That is why we always read from the Bible in our worship services. Our people use many different translations of the Bible but the one that is in the pew is a New King James translation. We recommend you use a modern translation of the Bible…one that you can easily understand. Please know that if you don't have a Bible of your own we would love to give you one with no strings attached. Please speak with our pastor about this.
Prayer…
You will also notice that prayer is also at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the power of a God who answers prayer. Prayer is the “spiritual engine” of our church. We pray in the worship service…sometimes we take requests for prayer during the service and we pray. Sometimes a need or a situation is raised where we will immediately take that request to our loving and powerful God. Almost every Sunday service there is a team of people known as “Prayer Partners” praying in a back room for the worship service, the message and for each one who is listening.
The Message…
When people think of what happens at church they immediately think of a “long and boring sermon”. At Fellowship we do our best to let God speak through His Word to every aspect of our life today. Our sermons come directly from the Bible with a strong focus on practical life application. There are times when we have special emphasis Sundays when something happens in the world or in the community we live that requires special attention in a sermon. Above all, we want God to speak through His Word. Right at the center is the message of Jesus Christ crucified for our sins and risen from the dead!
Kids@Fellowship…
A common question with any church is “What do we do with our children?” We believe children need the same opportunities to worship God in a meaningful and relevant way as their parents. We have a loving nursery (ages newborn-3years) that allows parents the freedom to worship. We believe children of all ages need to be included in our worship service. So we have a time when all the children are invited to the front where they are prayed for…sometimes given a short lesson before they go to KidzChurch (ages 3-8 years) where they have a Bible centered program suited for them. For children who are 8-11 years of age we offer KidzMatter …which is a clipboard activity project based upon the purposes of our church, for which they can receive rewards as an incentive to participate on a weekly basis.
Communion…
On the first Sunday of each month, (except for the occasional change) we will celebrate the Lord’s Table as a reminder for believers of why Jesus Christ died on the cross to take away the punishment for our sins and to encourage each other to live the Christian life. Communion is open to all believers who want to share with us the bread that is a symbol of the body of Christ…and the grape juice that reminds us of His blood, shed for each one of us. The bread and the juice are handed out in trays and handed from person to person. Those who choose not to participate are free to just pass them along and quietly reflect on what they are seeing. Just so you know...one of the few traditions we have is at the close of this service we hold hands and sing a hymn.
The Money…
Every week we take up an offering, also known as an “offering”. We view this as part of our worship of Jesus Christ. It’s an opportunity for people to support the work of God as a natural part of Christian responsibility…money is never emphasized. We encourage people to give only as an outflow of their love and loyalty to God.
How we dress at our worship…
We do not dictate how people should dress. People are welcome to dress up formally if they choose or to dress casual. What is most important ultimately…is not what is on the outside…but what is on the inside.
The Tone of our worship…
Above all, we want to lift up the name of Jesus and worship Him and show Him the great respect, reverence and love He deserves. Having said that, it does not mean that our worship of God has to be somber, solemn or sad. Our time together is a celebration of our relationship with our Heavenly Father through the Lord Jesus Christ who loves us and works in our lives in a way that we can really see.
So above all, we try to make our worship together genuine and honest. People are encouraged to respond in worship that is most natural for them. Some are very reserved and some are very expressive. We want people to know they can be themselves when they are with us. We laugh with those who celebrate and weep with those who weep. We do ask that everyone respect the needs and feelings of others.
Just one more thing…
If you are looking for a polished, professional music or a completely spontaneous worship style…you will probably be disappointed in our services. We don’t include much ritual and ceremony either. But we can offer worship that is real, intimate, genuine, heart-felt and God-centered. The best way to judge is to experience it for yourself... Come, check us out! You will find a warm, pressure-free welcome from an everyday kind of people who will accept you just as you are! In the same way….please don’t expect us to be perfect examples of Christian living…because we are not. We are just a group of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ who are doing our best to follow Him according to His Word.
